This week’s topic:  Top 5 Revolutionary Beats from Timbaland
This week’s list requirements:   1.  Must be a Timbaland beat

The list this week is not to be confused with Timbaland’s best beats, and is not in any particular order of the “best” beat either.  This list is based on how the beat changed the industry sound wise, and the copy cats soon followed.  With that being said, check out our list.

5.  Big Pimpin’ [Artist: Jay Z feat. UGK // Song:  Big Pimpin’]
This was the first beat that we heard with Indian music sampled and flipped in this fashion.  There were plenty other beats sampling Indian music soon after.

4.  Ayo Technology / Ice Box [Artist: 50 Cent feat. Justin Timberlake / Omarion // Song:  Ayo Technology / Ice Box]
Ayo Technology and Ice Box both were major revolutionary in the mid 2000’s.  Both of the songs introduced that futuristic, electronic arpeggio sound.  This sound almost became a standard in every song for the mid 2000’s and later.

===================================

3.  Gossip Folks [Artist: Missy Elliott // Song:  Gossip Folks]
This beat has a hard hitting sound on the first kick on every loop.  The sample is hitting every kick which just makes the beat very catchy and make you want to move.

===================================

2.  One in a Million  [Artist: Aaliyah // Song:  One in a Million]
This was the first beat ever that we heard that actually made us pay attention to beats on songs, instead just the lyrics.  This beat was before it’s time.  The hi hat and bassline pattern were completely different than anything being done at the time.  Once this track was released, every producer stepped up there hi hat and bassline game.  This beat sounds very Fruity Loop-ish.

===================================

1.  Are You That Somebody  [Artist: Aaliyah // Song:  Are You That Somebody]
As a producer listening to this track, you here a ton of uncommon sounds in this beat that producers wouldn’t think of using in their beats.  First, there is a baby’s talking sample used.  Then, there is mouth beat box being sampled alongside dice in a cup.  Those 3 samples, mixed with a super creative drum patter and hot song, are the recipe for a hit!
